Think SMART When it Comes to Kerb Damage and Scratches

Smart-fortwo-alloy-wheel-refurbishmentBuying new alloys can get expensive, fast. It’s this thought that often compels owners to leave their damaged alloys on their car far longer than they should, allowing what can start off as minor damage or scratches to become large areas of corrosion. This is because damage to the surface of the alloy allows corrosive material such as brake dust to penetrate the protective layers, causing more damage that  can’t be seen by the naked eye until it’s too late.

Rather than worry about costs, or keep putting off a vital change, why not simply get your alloys repaired? This is a cost-effective option that allows you to get alloys that look brand new without the corresponding expense. It also allows you to update your look, something that’s perfect for cars which are used for customer hire or business purposes – where looking smart and up to date is key.

Smart-fortwo-alloy-wheel-repairThe wheels pictured are from one of our trade partners, Veetec Hayes, who do top quality servicing of their clients’ cars. The car these alloys belong to is a Smart FORTWO car, which had obviously had a bit of a rough time as the wheels came to us with kerb damage and scratches in the centre.

Our technicians set to work and did a full refurbishment of the wheels, ensuring that all the damage and corrosion was completely removed. After this the wheels were powder coated and given a wonderful graphite colour finish, which looks very Smart now they’re back on the car.

We promise that our alloy repairs are better than our puns – why not give us a call on 0845 370 8881 to find out what we can do for your wheels?

Lotus Wheels Get a Lick of Paint

IMG_3060-2It’s amazing how much difference a new coat of paint can make. It might be more obvious on a house, or in your office, where you pay attention to the decor every day, but it’s even true on your alloys – and whereas you may have become accustomed to overlooking them every time you get into your car, you’ll now stop to admire them before and after any journey!

Diamond Alloys employ expert technicians who have spent literally decades repairing and re-painting all kinds of alloys. Take these sporty alloys from a Lotus as an example: you can clearly see how the new, completely smooth and shiny paint coating highlights the beautifully complex structure of the alloy and makes it, as they say in the fashion industry, ‘pop’.

This finish is Ghost Chrome, but we have a wide variety of colours and finishes available for you to choose from. Even if your alloys don’t need repairing, you can still bring them in for a new paint job any time you like – we’re more than happy to help you unleash your creative side and achieve a brand new aesthetic for your alloys and your car!

Time for some alloy TLC

mercedes-gl-amg-alloy-wheel3For our experts, there’s nothing sadder than the sight of formerly pristine alloy wheels that have since gone to seed. Many manufacturers have put literally millions of pounds into developing the perfect alloys for their models, and the cars consequently can only look their best when their wheels are in pristine condition.

Take the wheels on this Mercedes GL AMG, for example. Beautifully engraved with the AMG logo, they should radiate the elegance and refinement that is synonymous with the brand. When these wheels came to us, however, they had kerb damage around their sides as well as corrosion in the centre. This meant that they needed our urgent attention before the damage caused further corrosion that rendered the wheels irreparable.

mercedes-gl-amg-alloy-wheel2The best cure for these worn alloys was powder coating, which restores the alloys in an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly way. They are kinder to the environment because the powder coat contains no volatile organic compounds, which are damaging pollutants often found in liquid finishes for alloys.

Once we had aquablasted the damage away and applied this powder coating, which also helps the alloys last longer than the traditional paint coating, our expert technicians applied our standard paint finish. The colour mercedes-gl-amg-alloy-wheel1had been carefully matched by our technicians, to ensure that they kept to the original aesthetic of the car. Following the paint, our experts take the alloys to quality control, where they are assessed for standard of finish and overall condition.

After this the tyres are refitted, inflated to the correct pressure and rebalanced, ensuring that you can get back on the road safely as well as in style. This is all part of our service and included in the price. Following this there’s just one last quality control check before we give you back your keys – helping us to ensure that nothing has escaped our exacting standards.

Kerb Your Enthusiasm

kerbed-alloy-wheelKerb damage is pretty much what it says on the tin: damage to your alloys caused by banging them against a kerb. This most commonly happens during a parking manoeuvre and occurs a lot more than you might think: a recent survey found that one in 10 people had hit the kerb while parking, and one in nine had hit the kerb while driving. Interestingly, men and women are equally likely to do this, despite the driving stereotypes! alloy-wheel-kerbingYou might think that a bit of a scuff from the pavement is nothing to worry about but, as well as destroying the polished look of your alloys, the damage also compromises the protective lacquer layer on your wheels. This means that water can now seep under this layer and cause corrosion to your alloy – taking it from slightly scuffed to completely useless before you can blink.

Fortunately, however, you don’t need to rush out and buy expensive new rims every time you hit the kerb. Diamond Alloys can repair your existing alloys, saving you hundreds of pounds in the process. Depending on your type of alloys and your needs, we can either perform a painted or a diamond cut finish – both of which will have your wheels looking as good as new.

In addition, once your wheels have been repaired, we re-inflate and re-balance your tyres, meaning that we can also spot any tyre damage that has occurred as a result of you hitting the kerb. This is typically sidewall damage and can be extremely hazardous, but we won’t let your car leave until we’ve made it absolutely safe for you to drive. All our work comes with a 12 month warranty, leaving you with peace of mind that your alloys will remain in perfect condition.
